Food Safety Strategy and Management Research Center of Tianjin University of Science and Technology established in 2008, the Center (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") has evolved into a nationally recognized interdisciplinary platform through the following milestones:

Academic Recognition
2010 – Accredited as a Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences under the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission.
2014 – Launched the Tianjin Food Safety Public Education Base‌, pioneering science communication in food safety governance.
2016

  • Awarded Tianjin Outstanding Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base‌;

  • Designated among Tianjin's First University-Affiliated Think Tanks‌, upgraded to Tier-2 Excellence in 2018.

National Influence
2017

  • Listed in the inaugural Chinese Think Tank Index (CTTI) co-published by Nanjing University and Guangming Daily, maintaining continuous inclusion thereafter;

  • Recognized in the AMI Core Think Tank Evaluation System (Social Governance Category) by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, ranking among only two university think tanks nationwide in this field.
    2019 – Re-accredited as a CTTI Source Think Tank (2019-2022)‌, reinforcing its policy advisory role.

The Center functions under a dual governance model‌:

  • Academic Oversight: Directed by an Academic Committee chaired by CAE Academician Sun Baoguo‌;

  • Operational Leadership: Managed through a Director-led executive system‌.

Its research paradigm integrates methodologies from both natural and social sciences, prioritizing three interdisciplinary domains:

. Risk Mitigation & Systemic Governance (early-warning mechanisms, crisis management)

. Regulatory Evolution & Compliance Systems (law-performance evaluation, standardization strategies)

. Pluralistic Coordination & Science Translation (stakeholder engagement, risk communication frameworks)

  • Evidence-to-Policy Nexus: Generates translational research outputs through:

    • Tianjin Municipal Policy Labs (local governance pilots)

    • National Food Safety White Papers (strategic foresight reporting)

    • Industry-Academia Consortia (technology adoption roadmaps)

The center admits postgraduate students in food safety management from across the country, cultivating high-level talents with interdisciplinary expertise in humanities, science, engineering, management, and law.‌Guided by national and societal needs‌, we actively conduct scientific research to serve ‌decision-making‌, ‌policy formulation‌, and ‌critical industry demands‌ in food safety for ‌Tianjin Municipality‌ and the nation.
