The College of Economics and Management traces its origins to the Department of International Trade and Economics, established in September 1991. In May 2001, the Department of Economics and Management was founded, initially offering two undergraduate programs: International Economics and Trade, and Financial Management. It was renamed College of Economics and Management in December 2002.

Guided by the university motto "Upholding Virtue, Scholarship, and Action; Loving Country, University, and People," and adhering to a student-centered philosophy, the college now boasts three first-level master's programs in Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, and Applied Economics. It also offers four professional master's degree programs: MBA, MEM, MPAcc, and MPA. At the undergraduate level, it provides nine programs: International Economics and Trade, Financial Management (including a Sino-Australian Cooperative Education Program), Big Data Management and Application, Public Affairs Management, Human Resource Management, Logistics Management, Financial Engineering, Investment Studies, and Industrial Engineering. Among these, "Management Science and Engineering" is a Tianjin Municipal Key Discipline. The Financial Management program is recognized as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program and a Tianjin Brand Specialty. The Logistics Management program holds National First-Class Undergraduate Program status and serves as a pilot program for the Ministry of Education's New Liberal Arts Initiative. The International Economics and Trade program, also a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, offers a full-English instruction track. The Financial Engineering program is a Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program.

The school employs 10 distinguished faculty members, including recipients of national and municipal honors such as the National Young Talent in Ideological and Cultural Propaganda, Tianjin Distinguished Professors, Tianjin Teaching Masters, and municipal-level academic leaders. It currently enrolls over 4,700 students across doctoral, master's, undergraduate, and international programs.

The college leads several significant research platforms, including:

- Tianjin's Featured Discipline Cluster Project "Energy, Environment and Green Development"

- Tianjin's first university-level think tank "Food Safety Strategy and Management Research Center"

- Tianjin's Cultivating Think Tank "Energy Environment and Green Development Research Center"

- Tianjin's first "Carbon Neutrality Research Institute" among universities

- Tianjin's Service-Oriented Discipline Cluster "Lean Intelligent Management for Light Industries"

Its Experimental Teaching Center for Economics and Management is a municipal-level demonstration center. The school also maintains multiple provincial-level teaching teams and first-class courses, including "Economics Fundamentals and Rational Thinking" and "Intelligent Cold Chain Logistics," a virtual simulation teaching project.

In recent years, the school has hosted major academic events such as the International Symposium on Food Safety Multi-Governance and the International Forum on Carbon Peak and Green Development. It has organized national-level initiatives like the National Low-Carbon Day Promotion Event and municipal climate change capacity-building programs.

Faculty members have led dozens of national research projects, including key programs from the National Social Science Fund and National Natural Science Foundation. They have completed over 300 ministerial and horizontal research projects, publishing more than 1,000 academic papers. The Food Safety Strategy and Management Research Center has been recognized as an outstanding humanities and social sciences base in Tianjin and ranked among China's Top 100 University Think Tanks. The Energy Environment and Green Development Center was included in the CTTI Source Think Tank Index in 2017.
