“Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers" issues and food policy research center was established in 2016 and is a think tank of Tianjin's universities. In 2017, it was among the first batch of think tanks selected for the China Think Tank Index (CTTI), and in 2018, it was rated as a second-class excellent university think tank in Tianjin. In 2019, it was recognized as a source think tank of the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) and was a major initiator of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Food Safety Think Tank Alliance.
The center is based on the disciplines of food science & engineering, Management Science & Engineering. Its research directions mainly include: food policy and food safety management, food economy and food industry development, rural revitalization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
The center actively provides a scientific basis for government decision-making, promoting the comprehensive and sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas. Relying on the advantages of the Food Science and Engineering discipline and the State Key Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Safety, it has established research platforms such as the "Food Safety Monitoring and Data Analysis Laboratory", "Food Safety Standard Database", "China Food Safety Incident Case Database", and "Intelligent HACCP System for small and medium-sized food enterprises".
The center has a team of experts covering multiple disciplines such as food science, economics, and administration. It focuses on key issues in the development of agriculture and rural areas and food safety, conducting in-depth theoretical and practical countermeasure research on rural revitalization, food economy, and food policy. It has published over 70 papers and more than 10 monographs, and many policy suggestions have been approved by national and provincial leaders. The research results are rich and the social benefits are significant.
