Introduction to the Discipline

Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST), jointly built by the Chinese Central Government and Tianjin Municipal Government and mainly constructed by the latter, is a comprehensive university, which is committed to constructing “Double First-Class University” in multiple disciplines in Tianjin. It is also the only university with a complete educational system for undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students in Binhai New Area. The Master’s Degree Program in Enterprise Management of TUST was established in 2001, and the first-level discipline Business Administration was authorized the conferment of master’s degree in 2010. At present, the discipline of Business Administration has covered five sub-branches such as Enterprise Management, Accounting, Technical Economy and Management, International Business Administration and Logistics Management. Relying on the advantages of the TUST's distinguished discipline Light Industry, Business Administration takes efforts to explore the integration and complementation between the management disciplines and engineering disciplines. Now with a reasonable team structure, a clear direction, a sound discipline foundation and fruitful achievements, the discipline has formed distinctive characteristics of development. And these remarkable achievements can be found in teaching, scientific research, personnel training and service in many aspects of economic and social development.

At present, the discipline Business Administration has 46 faculty members, including 15 professors, 26 associate professors and 5 lecturers, and of whom, 31 are master supervisors, and 23 are with doctoral degrees. Business Administration as a distinguished discipline has made a series of achievements in scientific research fields, such as scientific research projects, scientific research awards, publishing papers and monographs. In the past five years, we have obtained more than 120 scientific research projects including 3 national projects. In addition, both teachers and students in our discipline have totally published more than 80 papers in high-level journals and professional core journals such as Science Research Management and China Soft Science and etc., and 9 monographs have come off the press by Nankai University Press, Harbin Institute of Technology and other publishing houses respectively.

In the face of the national strategic opportunities for the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, TUST is trying to meet the challenges for the development and opening of the Binhai New Area. Guided by the TUST’s educational positioning and service orientation, the discipline of Business Administration is strengthening its strategic cooperation with some regions and industries and actively carrying out teaching and research cooperation, academic communication and personnel exchanges with many universities at home and abroad. In recent years, we have successfully hosted the international and domestic academic conferences, such as “The 1st International Symposium on Diversified Governance of Food Safety”, “The 1st Food Safety Governance Symposium in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region”, and “The 3rd Tianjin Young Teacher Academic Salon in Management Discipline” etc.. Authorized by the China Scholarship Council, TUST has qualifications to recruit international students with national government scholarships. Over the years, international students from Russia, Southeast Asia, Mongolia and some other countries and regions have been studying for MBA program, and some have already graduated with the degree of Master of Business Administration. TUST has also established student exchange programs with universities from the United States, Russia, Australia and so on. Such exchanges and cooperation have effectively promoted the improvement of teaching and scientific research, expanding the influence of the discipline at home or abroad.
