School of Economics and Management Holds Series of Seminars on Implementing the OBE Concept (Investment Studies Chapter) ——Deepen the OBE Concept and Empower Teaching Reform
To thoroughly implement the requirements of higher education teaching reform, promote the deep integration of the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) concept into the teaching of the Investment Studies Program and improve the quality of talent cultivation, the Teaching and Research Section of the Investment Studies Program of the School of Economics and Management held a special seminar themed “Exploration and Practice of Teaching Reform Paths for the Investment Studies Program under the Guidance of the OBE Concept” in Room 332, Building 16 on January 8, 2026. Some faculty members of the Investment Studies Program attended the seminar, which was presided over by Wang Xianya, Director of the Teaching and Research Section.
This seminar aimed to unify teachers’ teaching philosophies, clarify the direction of teaching reform, and tackle prominent pain points and difficulties existing in current professional teaching. At the opening of the event, Director Wang Xianya highlighted the core significance of the seminar. She emphasized that the OBE concept serves as a key measure to improve professional teaching quality and match industrial talent demands. She urged teachers to explore concrete paths for integrating the OBE concept into teaching reform from the perspective of program development and student growth.
During the discussion, Teacher Yang Fang led participants to systematically learn the core connotation, basic principles and implementation essentials of the OBE concept. Combining practical cases of relevant majors in domestic and overseas universities, she elaborated on the three core tenets: “student-centered, outcome-oriented and continuously improved”. Based on the teaching realities of the Investment Studies Program, teachers held lively discussions on topics such as “how to define core learning outcomes of the program” and “how to precisely align teaching processes with outcome orientation”, further deepening their understanding of the OBE concept.
In the session analyzing current teaching status, teachers frankly exchanged views on problems in the curriculum system, instructional design, practical teaching, assessment and evaluation of the Investment Studies Program based on teaching practice. Targeting these challenges, teachers carried out in-depth discussions and put forward a set of feasible reform ideas and measures guided by the OBE concept.
Regarding curriculum system optimization, all teachers agreed that the curriculum system should adopt backward design based on job demands in the investment industry and students’ career development objectives, and strengthen logical connections between courses. In terms of instructional design, it was proposed to shift teaching methods from lecture-based teaching to case-based and project-based teaching, and introduce real industrial cases and projects to boost student initiative and engagement. To address weaknesses in practical teaching, the team clarified that university-enterprise cooperation should be deepened, training programs enriched and training resources upgraded to enhance students’ practical application capabilities. For assessment and evaluation, a multi-dimensional evaluation system consisting of formative assessment, summative assessment and practical competence assessment should be constructed to fully reflect students’ comprehensive capabilities.
At the end of the seminar, Director Wang Xianya summarized the activity. She stated that teachers have built consensus and clarified directions through this seminar, laying a solid foundation for advancing subsequent teaching reform work. The Teaching and Research Section will sort out and formulate an optimization plan for talent training objectives and a draft for curriculum system reconstruction, promote the optimization of instructional design and assessment schemes for all courses, strengthen university-enterprise cooperation, and establish a continuous improvement mechanism. These efforts will ensure the solid implementation of the OBE concept in teaching reform and effectively lift the talent cultivation quality of the Investment Studies Program, delivering more high-quality professionals for industrial development.
The successful holding of this special seminar has not only deepened Investment Studies faculty’s understanding of the OBE concept, but also clarified concrete paths for teaching reform, injecting new impetus into the high-quality development of the program. Teachers expressed that they will take this seminar as an opportunity to actively engage in teaching reform practice and continuously improve teaching standards and talent training quality.
