Guided by Pioneers, Aspirations Fulfilled; Youth Shines on the Lectern | School of Economics and Management Holds the 3rd "Zhiyuan Cup" Young Teachers’ Basic Teaching Skills Competition
To fully implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, respond actively to the call for high-quality education development in the new era, consolidate the foundation of teaching and learning, and stimulate young teachers’ internal motivation for teaching and educating students, the 3rd "Zhiyuan Cup" Young Teachers’ Basic Teaching Skills Competition, undertaken by the Trade Union of the School of Economics and Management, was recently held on the Hexi Campus. Kong Lintao, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, and Li Wenfu, Party Secretary of the school, attended the event.
Centered on core teaching competencies, this year’s "Zhiyuan Cup" consisted of three segments: teaching design, classroom demonstration and teaching reflection. It comprehensively assessed contestants’ teaching capabilities from dimensions including teaching content, classroom organization and verbal expression. On the competition stage, young teachers demonstrated their elegant demeanour. With rich teaching content and innovative presentation approaches, they delivered wonderful lessons featuring both “in-depth knowledge” and “nurturing warmth”.
Judges listened attentively to each demonstration class, carefully noted teaching highlights and areas for improvement, and offered professional and precise guidance during the comment session. Student volunteers took initiative and provided patient services to fully support the logistics of the contest, forming a heartwarming sight at the event.
After all contestants finished their presentations, Professor Kong Lintao, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, delivered comments. He affirmed that all participants were well-prepared and effectively integrated curriculum-based ideological and political education into teaching. Meanwhile, he pointed out common shortcomings among young teachers, such as insufficient application of teaching methods and unsatisfactory blackboard writing. He stressed that lesson plans should not only reflect teaching content but also cover the complete teaching workflow.
The "Zhiyuan Cup" competition serves as a high-quality platform for young teachers of the School of Economics and Management to exchange ideas and hone teaching skills. It promotes research and reform through competition, effectively motivating young teachers to devote themselves to teaching and sharpen their professional abilities. The sixteen-character school motto — “Uphold virtue, pursue knowledge, practice diligently; Love the motherland, cherish the university, care for people” — is deeply embedded into teaching practice. Going forward, the school will continue to use the competition as a link to deepen education and teaching reform, support the rapid growth of young teachers, and inject continuous, robust momentum into improving teaching quality and cultivating high-caliber talents.
