School of Economics and Management Holds Series of Seminars on Implementing the OBE Concept (Industrial Engineering Chapter) ——In-depth Discussions on OBE Concept to Build Consensus for Curriculum Reform and Upgraded Talent Cultivation

To deepen the implementation of the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) concept in teaching practice and further enhance the effectiveness of professional courses in supporting talent training objectives, all faculty members of the Industrial Engineering Program held a special seminar themed “Implementing the OBE Concept — How Professional Courses Can Better Support Program Training Objectives” on January 15, 2026. Combining collective study, keynote speeches and group discussions, the seminar focused on program connotation development and built consensus for reform.

At the opening of the seminar, the Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering led participants to systematically learn the core connotation and implementation path of the OBE concept. Centering on program training objectives, three key priorities for curriculum reform were put forward: first, deepen curriculum content reform, actively align with industrial frontiers and corporate demands, and integrate new technologies, real-world cases and innovative tasks into teaching; second, innovate teaching methods, widely adopt case teaching and interdisciplinary project collaboration, and boost competence development through academic competitions and group projects; third, improve the assessment and evaluation system, establish a multi-dimensional evaluation mechanism, strengthen formative assessment for comprehensive capabilities including innovative thinking, teamwork and problem-solving, and ensure that curriculum teaching advances in line with program training objectives.

During the seminar, teachers spoke actively in light of the highly practical nature of Industrial Engineering. They stressed that it is necessary to increase the proportion and quality of practical sessions such as experiments, internships and curriculum design in teaching, enabling students to master industrial engineering methodologies and technologies through practice. Students will also be encouraged to participate in research projects and innovation competitions to promote learning via contests and strengthen competencies through research.

Regarding the construction of core courses, taking Production Planning and Control and Lean Production as examples, participating teachers analyzed opportunities brought by the booming digital economy and intelligent manufacturing, as well as challenges including updating teaching content, stimulating student initiative and improving faculty competence. The meeting pointed out that it is necessary to continuously deepen the integration of industry and education, optimize the curriculum system, and further strengthen training on analyzing complex engineering problems, fostering teamwork capabilities, and integrating and applying digital technologies in courses.

The seminar further clarified the direction of teaching reform: “student-centered, outcome-oriented and continuously improved”. All faculty of the program have gained a deeper understanding that implementing the OBE concept essentially means shifting from traditional knowledge transmission to the cultivation of capabilities and thinking. We must adhere to the core goal of cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents, and carry out systematic design and continuous improvement for curriculum teaching.

This seminar has consolidated consensus on program development and clarified the path of curriculum reform. Taking this seminar as an opportunity, the Industrial Engineering Program will continuously promote integration of industry and education, strengthen faculty development, improve the continuous improvement mechanism for curriculum quality, jointly lift the quality of professional talent training to a new level, and better serve the development and demands of regional industries.
